Fire Prevention Week ran from Oct 07 - Oct 13

The theme this year is Look, Listen & Learn! What does that mean? The goal is to raise awareness of “three basic but essential steps to take to reduce the likelihood of having a fire.” Those steps are:

  • LOOK for possible fire hazards in your home and eliminate them.

  • LISTEN for your home’s smoke alarms. Know that you may have only minutes to get out if a fire breaks out.

  • LEARN two ways out of each room of your home. Exits should be easy to access and free of clutter. After leaving the home, go to your family’s designated meeting spot, established when you set up a home fire escape plan.

Rivers Fire Department members spent the afternoon on Wednesday speaking with each class @ Rivers Elementary about the importance of Fire Safety, including these crucial steps.

On Friday members performed a fire drill where the students & staff witnessed a full response from the fire department, including a search of the school for any students that had not evacuated.

Rivers Fire is proud to work with the community to teach & review these valuable fire safety skills! If you would like more information about fire safety in your home, please contact Chief Richard Brown.
